Once again I am reminded of the coccoon of limited knowledge I was raised to believe up until just a few years ago. I truly thought we were the only ones to believe all these "truths" you just enumerated because only WE had the FD&S to guide us to God.

I'm glad to hear that others who have been trapped as we have, are able to break free from such bondage. If they do come to one of your bbq's...how interesting that will be to "compare notes".

I'm sure you'll keep us posted!

Revealed: Prisca the pyromaniac!

it came as a surprise to those gathering for the sydney apostofest bbq today to find that prisca is a pyromaniac.. this previously well-concealed aspect of prisca's personality was seen by all as she broke free from all previous guidelines and laid waste to that wood!.

arriving early, perhaps to show bbq expert older tom a thing or two about lighting fires, she gathered the plentiful supply of wood and underbrush.

lit them with fire-sticks (did she cheat by using some flammable liquid?

Ah Ozzie: What a lovely picture you paint for us!!! And way to go Mrs. Ozzie and Prisca....taking charge of the cooking and the fire!!!

Those Aussie bbq's were discussed at one of our little gatherings in Toronto and the suggestion was made to do that here too in the warmer weather. The suggestion was met with a lot of enthusiasm so here's hoping....

It does make for an enjoyable time for sure to be able to see that, as you said "a very friendly happy atmosphere prevails. What we DO talk about is the experiences each one has had that caused them to have their eyes opened to the truth about "the troof"."

except we'll watch the Canadian sunset of course!

WTS Plan to Improve Stats

it looks like the wts finally put 2 and 2 together on the us branchs failing statistics over the past few years, particularly the years 97 - 01. what happened?.

in the latter part of 1996 cos instructed elders that congregation bookstudy conductors (soon to be officially called "congregation bookstudy overseers) should not initially ask congregation publishers for their field service time reports.

instead, each congregation should have a small box so that publishers could "shoulder their own responsibility by turning in time of their own accord," by voluntarily putting their report slip into this box.

How does this one sound: "An elder never stood so tall that stooped to squeeze their old and invalid to bolster failing statistics!"

I have to say that every day I keep finding out more about how low they will stoop. This one is appalling but certainly not surprising.

The only good thing is that now, those in a nursing home like my mother, will at least get a visit once a month from someone from the congregation. For all the years of association and service she's had, she only has us, her family, visiting her, much like many others who need to be in a nursing home.

The WTS's whole motivation for this "time collecting" tactic shouts a loud and clear message of desperation on their part. Its actually good to see them scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas in how to make the numbers go up again.

We may have to listen to them crow about any rise in statistics for awile, but any rise will only be temporary until the r&f get fed up from being bullied more, I'm sure.

first time post

just nice to know that i'm not alone.

i'm truly amazed and had no idea unitil yesterday surfing on a whim i decided to confront my past.

it's a blessing for me and i feel another turning point in my life because now i have lots of people to talk to and i know now that i wasn't and i'm not going crazy and that it's not just me.

Its always nice to see another expression of relief from someone, at having found our home.

Many of us felt and still feel the same way...its great to know we're not alone....and you will continue to be "amazed" at what you will learn here and there's lots of laughter and silliness too which makes it all the more fun to be here.

Well gang....there's just one "Had Enough" for me too...er also (for the bad spellers) .... although there is another one posting whose name is close to mine ie: "HadEnuf" but that one isn't me eh! (I'm the Canadian one)

So all my personalities, the cheery one, the angry one, the sad one, etc. are wrapped up in that one name but my friends mostly know my cheery persona...

my kids recently met my older brother.

they took photo's.

i had forgotten that they'd seen him and i was thumbing thru my daughter's pictures and came across a picture of my brother with my daugher and one with my son.

I am so sorry to read your post Marilyn. Your's and your brother's situation could easily be my son and daughter's in 20 years from now.

How sad to see a family torn apart such as this...it is just too heartbreaking especially when we read the WTS drivel on how "family ties are not broken". Life is just too short to waste it on such stupidity!!!

It not only breaks my heart though...it makes me mad as hell!! ... especially when I hear my daughter complain how its all his fault because he CHOSE the state he's in. I won't even go into that or I'll break a blood vessle or something!!!

All I can say is I hope your brother (and my daughter) wake up before its too late. My heart goes out to you.

im a female whose favorite family member had fought against jws all her life, then died a few years ago.

her children are now being raised as jws against her will.

I add my "welcome to the board" and also add my cautions to you too!

Please continue to clear your mind after their brainwashing sessions and also if you start to attend meetings and experience the "love-bombings" to come your way. Be wary of their sincerity and continue with your scepticism. You'll need to do it on a continual basis.

Continue to come here to air your concerns, ask your questions, join in the discussions and also just to read. Here you'll find a real wealth of information that is well-presented and scrutinized by all. Whatever is presented here that needs correcting will be corrected real quick, so you'll be able to come to the reasonable and informed conclusions on your own.

You are to be congratulated for the task you are taking on...that's a very loving thing to do. Just remember to keep coming here...you made need to vent once in awhile too!!!

Bethel Memoirs, Good and Not So Good

in an earlier post, i mentioned a recent trip to a local assembly hall to catch up on the latest in jw rhetoric -- which incidentally sounds pretty much like it always has.. .

while being regaled with exhortations to elevate the importance of meeting attendance to the status of that approaching a patient on life support, i couldn't help but chuckle as how so many -- not all, mind you, but many bethelites during my tenure there in the late sixties, honed their skill at ducking meetings to the level of fine art.. because it was policy that work assignments took precedence over all other obligations including and especially meetings and field service, many would find some pretext to stay back and piddle away at their desk or workbench.

this was particularly true of the stafers assigned to the maintenance of the bethel home.

It really rankles me to think of how many times I stood up to criticisms about Bethel-life and the role of the presidents and such ones. I crowed about their humility and how service and meeting attendance was just as important to them and it was (supposed to be) to us. That's why is was important for us to put our "all" into those things..."because even the president with his busy schedule would be meeting the required hours of service and meetings". HAH!!!!

Now I have to eat crow, lol, but I don't care about that...I'm just grateful each day to be here to learn the truth about what I thought I knew!!!!!

I thank you too, for your personal reflections on your Bethel days. Even after having my eyes opened for about a year now, these kinds of details still make me just shake my head in disbelief at how easily we, the general rank and file, were (and they still are) fooled. So many of us held Bethel life in such high esteem as an example of mature spirituality.

These stories actually are a help to me, as they are a continual reminder of the hypocrisy I hate so much in the WTS.

Postcard from Australia

strong gale force winds and storms have been lashing the coast of new south wales for the past two weeks bringing unseasonally cool to cold weather.

the bush fires that had been burning throughout the state's interior have been extinguished.

now the state government has had to react to the new storm damage disaster and the state emergency service has been working around the clock for the past week to repair and cover damaged roofs.

Thank you for your interesting details in your postcard. I hope you and Mrs. Ozzie are fairing well and intact in the nasty weather you've been having there.

And thank you for your update on Aussie WTS statistics. That was an interesing comparison made of the WTS record-keeping obsession with that of other totallitarian organisations like the Nazis, the Romanian communist regime and the Taliban government. And it truly is heartwarming to see the numbers taking the direction they are. It looks good on them.
